空气自动增压器,英文名"Booster"，其原理是利用多个气缸相互对压，由于两边活塞的受力面积有区别，造成对压时两边的压力不平衡，为了两边的出力平衡，出力小的那边的气压会被活塞压缩，使之成为更高压的气体。我们可以利用物理数据来解释原理： 气缸的出力F=PXS（P表示气压力；S表示活塞面积），两个气缸对压的时候，一个气缸压力为F1，另一个为F2，此时两个气缸同时通入相同气压的气体（P1=P2），假如一个气缸的活塞面积S1大于另一个气缸S2，则P1XS1>P2XS2，及F1>F2，推力小的气缸活塞会被推着向后退，P2被挤压，压力升高。当活塞退到某个地方， P2的压力上升到一定程度，使得此时的P1XS1=P2XS2，两个气缸出力相等，两气缸的活塞就会停止移动，这就是P2增压的过程。增压器根据控制方式的不同，分为气增压和电增压两种。除了增压压缩空气，空气增压器还可以增压某些特殊气体或者液体，使之压力上升到一个目标值以达到使用目的。
